Research Unbound: Being an Effective Researcher at OU

Welcome to Oakland University! This micro-course, which involves a series of online modules, will help you learn about the University Libraries' resources available to you, and will equip you with the skills you need to be an effective researcher.

This micro-course is broken up into topical lessons. Please work through them in order, as concepts and knowledge build as you work through the course. You'll learn more about:

• Starting a search, both with effective keywords and in knowing where to search for information;
• Different types of informational resources and their purposes - so, what to use, when;
• Evaluating the search results you find, whether on the Internet or in library databases;
• Expanding your search by using expert searchers' tricks, such as mining records and using subject terms;
• And, making the most of OU Libraries' services and resources on-campus and off-campus.
