HOW TO: Using Library OneSearch (Ebsco Discovery Service)

Looking for specific sources for a research project, or to reserve or request library materials? Here's how to get started searching and saving your resources in Library OneSearch.

Place holds and requests

Placing holds and requests in Library OneSearch

Need to place a request for item? It’s easy!

Enter your terms in the search bar and click "search."

Once you have located the item you'd like to request, check the availability as listed beneath the title in the item's catalog record. Items that are eligible for holds will have a "Place Request" button. Click on the button to complete the request process.

Note that you can also click on the item's full catalog record, which will display the full bibliographic information about the title, as well as its location and availability within Kresge Library.

If you have not already signed into Library OneSearch with your NetID, you may be prompted to do so now. After clicking on the "Place Request" button on the item record, a new window will appear which will allow you to confirm the item copy and pickup location. Once you've selected the appropriate options, click the "Place Request" button.

After clicking "Place Request," you'll receive a notification that the request has been made successfully.

After successfully making the request, you'll see on the item's record that "Place Request" button has been updated to reflect that the item in question has an active hold. The number of holds active will be noted, as well as your place in the holds queue (red box).

Note that if you want to remove the hold from your account, you can do so directly from the item record. Review your account and cancel the hold request if you no longer want the item you've requested.

To access a list of your active holds and requests, you can click on the Folder icon on the right side of the Library OneSearch taskbar and review the Requests section on the left side to view and manage active holds. There is also a "My Requests" link in the upper right corner of the taskbar, which can also be accessed to view and manage your active holds.

All active holds will be listed in this section of your Folder, and the listing will be updated to reflect each item's availability once the item(s) become available for pickup at Kresge Library. Again, if you wish to remove the hold(s) from your account at any point, you can do so by logging into your library account and clicking the "Remove" button.

When your holds are available, you will receive an email with the relevant details of where and when you can pick up your item(s).
