Discovering and accessing technical standards.

About standards

A standard is a document that provides requirements, specifications, guidelines, or characteristics that can be used consistently to ensure that materials, products, processes, and services are fit for their purpose.

Many standards are written by standards developing organizations (SDOs): organizations which provide the administrative, technical, and other support for experts to come together and figure out the best technical solution to a problem. Other standards are developed and published by government and military agencies.

Upon request, ANSI can provide faculty with complimentary access to selected international standards for use in curricula. The objective is to raise the awareness and impact of standards in their field of study. The program is open to all disciplines.

International Classification for Standards (ICS)
Published by ISO, this classification system serves as a structure for catalogues of international, regional and national standards and other normative documents, and as a basis for standing-order systems.
