PFAS: From Frying Pan to Fire

Christy McGillivray, Legislative and Political Director for Sierra Club of Michigan, unveils the truth about PFAS, the invisible toxins lurking in your clothing, paper, and especially Teflon! These "forever chemicals" contaminate our water, harm our health, and cling to the environment for generations. Is a PFAS-free future possible? What actions can YOU take to protect yourself and your loved ones?

About the speaker:

Christy's areas of expertise include solid waste policy, Great Lakes water quality problems including PFAS and other toxics, agriculture, and the intersection of public health and environmental policies at the state legislative level. Christy began her career as an environmental advocate after graduating from Sarah Lawrence College in 2004. She has an MSc in Environmental Education from the University of Edinburgh and has worked as an adjunct professor at Deakin University in Melbourne Australia and Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. Past roles include Campaign Director for Clean Water Action, STEM education coordinator for the Farmington Hills Nature Center, and organizer for the American Federation of Teachers, Michigan. Before joining the Michigan Chapter of Sierra Club as the Legislative and Political Director, Christy taught chemistry and physics for Eastpointe High School.
