HOW TO: Putting Resources Into RefWorks

If you are working in one of OU Libraries' databases or Library OneSearch, you can directly export a resource's information into your account. You can find detailed instructions for each OU Libraries resource in this guide.

Exporting References

For Legacy RefWorks (orange):

  1. From the search results screen, mark the records you want to export.
  2. Select the drop down menu after Batch Download above the search results.
  3. Choose citations (BibTeX) and click Retrieve Marked.
  4. A new page will appear. Select and copy the reformatted citations from that page.
  5. Log in to RefWorks.
  6. Select References/Import from the toolbar.
  7. Select BibTeX as the data source and MathSciNet AMS (BibTeX format) as the database.
  8. Paste the text you have copied in the textbox labelled: Import data from the following text.
  9. Click Import.
  10. Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.

For ProQuest RefWorks (blue):

  1. From the search results screen, mark the records you want to export.
  2. Select the drop down menu after Batch Download above the search results.
  3. Choose citations (BibTeX) and click Retrieve Marked.
  4. A new page will appear. Select and copy the reformatted citations from that page into a Notepad (.txt) file and save it on your computer.
  5. Log in to RefWorks.
  6. Open the Add a Reference (plus sign) menu and select Import References.
  7. Import the Notepad file you saved on your computer either by dragging and dropping the file icon to the import area or clicking select a file from your computer and choosing the file.
  8. Enter BibTeX as the type of file and select MathSciNet AMS (BibTeX format) as the database.
  9. Click Import.
  10. Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
