Zotero

Zotero is a free and easy to use tool that helps you collect, organize, cite, and share research citations. You can use Zotero in your web browser, but it's most effectively used as software installed on your computer -- it's available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.  In order to get started, you need to first register an account online. Once you have an account, you can use Zotero in several ways:

  1. You can save citations to Zotero directly from your browser using the browser extensions available for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. This is the most common way to add citations as you find materials in library databases or anywhere online.

  2. You can work directly in your Zotero Web Library, where you can organize your citations, collaborate, and create bibliographies.

  3. You can also download and use the Zotero Standalone application available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, which also allows to organize your citations, create bibliographies, etc...

    • Everything is saved locally to your computer, but you can make sure to set up syncing of files and citations if you find yourself switching between Zotero Web Library and Zotero Standalone when using different computers.
