HOW TO: Downloading Database Content

If you are working in one of OU Libraries' databases or Library OneSearch, you can download database content directly from its catalog record. Explore this guide to find detailed instructions for performing this action in OU's major databases.

Navigate to the library homepage. The catalog search bar is positioned in the middle of the webpage.

Enter your search terms and/or keywords into the search bar (red box) and select a specific field, if necessary. Click Search.

Your search results will be displayed on the resulting catalog record screen. Use the filters at the top of the search results page to refine your search results, as needed. If you see an item that's fully available online, click the included links that indicate the item's online availability (there may be multiple options for online access).

You will see the available access points listed if you click on the "Access Options" link (red box). Click any of the available links to be directed to the hosting database, where the full item will be displayed. You may be asked to log in with your institutional credentials to access the database (if you have not logged in already).

Click any of the available links to be directed to the hosting database, where the full item will be displayed. You may be asked to log in with your institutional credentials to access the database if you have not logged in already. After you've logged in, you may be redirected to a new page where the hosting database will generate the view of item's you've requested (see below for an example of what this may look like).

You will be redirected to a new page where an electronic version of the item is displayed. Click on the download icon (red box) to download a copy of the item.

That's it! A PDF copy of the item will be downloaded to your device. Be sure to save the item after the download process is complete.
