Remote Access

Remote Access to Library Resources

Current students, faculty, and staff can access the library’s electronic resources—such as databases, e-journals, and e-books—from off campus using their institutional login. Remote access ensures you can continue your research, study, and coursework from anywhere with an internet connection.

When prompted, simply log in with your university credentials to access licensed materials. Most resources can be accessed through the library website, OneSearch, or direct links in course materials.

If you experience issues with remote access:

What is a proxied link?

A proxied link includes a special prefix that routes your request through OU Libraries’ authentication system.

Proxy prefix:
https://huaryu.kl.oakland.edu/login?url=

Why do I need a proxied link?

When you’re off campus, library resource links must go through our proxy server to recognize you as an Oakland University user. These links will prompt you to log in with your NetID and password, giving you full access to subscription content.

How do I proxy a link?

To make any vendor link work off campus:

  1. Copy the original (unproxied) URL.

  2. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the URL.

Example:

  • Unproxied JSTOR link:
    https://www.jstor.org/stable/40651623

  • Proxied JSTOR link:
    https://huaryu.kl.oakland.edu/login?url=https://www.jstor.org/stable/40651623

Proxy a Link

If you're sharing a link to a library database or article, it needs to be proxied so it works off campus.

Use this tool to create a link that will prompt OU users to log in and access the resource.
