Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

OU students, faculty, and staff may request materials we don't have and we'll borrow them from another library for you. This service is free. Click here for information about ILL policies. 

MeLCat

MeLCat (Michigan Electronic Library) is an online catalog service that allows OU students, faculty, and staff to request books from libraries all over Michigan and have them delivered to Kresge Library for pick up.

• The fastest way to borrow something not available at OU.
• Recommended for books, DVDs, and CDs.
• Find the book you need and login to place a request using your name and full G#.
• You'll receive an email when the book is ready for pick up.

ILLiad

ILLiad is the service you use to place orders for interlibrary loans from all over the world.

• Use for journal articles, book chapters, and books that aren't available from MeLCat.
• Login to ILLiad and fill out a request form.

Copy Service

This is a free service offered to the students, faculty, and staff of Oakland University to provide copies of print materials owned by the Oakland University Libraries. The requested journal articles and book chapters are retrieved from the stacks, copied, and delivered electronically.

• Any request found in the stacks will be guaranteed a forty-eight hour turnaround. Requests for items not located in the stacks will be routed to interlibrary loan. Such requests will be governed by the regular interlibrary loan turnaround time.
• Requests must be submitted using ILLiad. Users must select Copy Service from the left navigation menu. 
• All completed requests will be delivered electronically as PDFs. Patrons will be notified by email when materials are ready to be accessed.

Book Delivery for Distance Students

If you are not taking any of your classes on the main OU campus, you are eligible to use this service.

• Log into ILLiad.
• If you are a NEW USER, you'll fill out the registration form. Be sure to mark your status as "DistanceEd Ugrad" or "DistanceEd Grad" to be able to use this service.
• If you are an EXISTING USER, you can go to "Change User Information" from the menu sidebar and change your status to "DistanceEd Ugrad" or "DistanceEd Grad." You will need to enter your G-number to save the changes.
• A new area will appear in the menu sidebar that allows you to request a "Kresge Article" or a "Kresge Book." The area is above the request links for interlibrary loan materials.
