  quick and easy way to browse vital statistics, such as marriage and divorce rates, mortality, etc... Each table in the vital statics shows state-level data, but also has links to see the data broken down by various characteristics, such as population groups or counties.

  a quick starting point to see the tables on all data topics either by county, or by town, or by local health department.

U.S. Census

• QuickFacts -
  a table of data points that can be customized to display the same information for a state, county, city, town, or zip code. This is an easy way to get a community profile of census data at a level of your choice, including data on race, age, education, socioeconomic indicators, etc...

Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

• PLACES: Local Data for Better Health -
  allows you to compare up to three counties; the interactive maps can show you data on a number of topics, such as health outcomes, prevention, health risk behaviors, health status, and disability. You can zoom in to counties or cities within them.
• Vital Statistics Online Data Portal - 
  downloadable file with birth and death statistics. At the bottom of the page, there is a link to their data interface, called CDC WONDER, which allows you to select states or counties when you explore specific data topics.
• FastStats: Statistics by Topic -
  listing of state-level data for various health topic, including various condition and health-related behaviors.
• National Health Statistics: Data Finder -
  detailed data tables with the option to select from a long dropdown of health statistics and another dropdown of population subgroups, where you can choose states or regions.

UW Population Health Institute

• County Health Rankings and Roadmaps -
  if you start with a zip code, the "compare counties" tab allows you to build a comparison or you can choose a state as your starting point and explore county-level data. This source provides data on health outcomes and behaviors, availability of health care, social and economic factors, and physical environment factors.
