RefWorks to Zotero

Oakland University's RefWorks subscription will expire in June 2023.  The Medical Library is now  supporting Zotero, a free, open-source alternative.

If you have used RefWorks in the past and have data stored there, we advise you to save and export that data to another citation management system as soon as possible.  Instructions on this process can be found here -

Zotero is an open-source citation management tool that is designed to store and manage bibliographic references. Zotero can help you seamlessly add sources and produce perfect bibliographies and gives you the ability to reuse sources across multiple projects or build a shared research library.  Because Zotero is free to use, you will always have access to it.

Check out the Medical Library's Zotero guide at, which includes a Quick Start Guide, tutorials and helpful videos.

For further information about the transition from RefWorks to Zotero, go to

RefWorks allows you to create a personal list of references and to format your bibliography in any citation style.
