
According to the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) of the American Library Association, "Scholarly communication can be defined as the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use." Scholarly Communications is a broad field that includes many categories, including copyright and intellectual property, scholarly impact/bibliometrics, open access, new publishing models, and new licensing models, to name a few.
