According to the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) of the American Library Association, "Scholarly communication can be defined as the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use." Scholarly Communications is a broad field that includes many categories, including copyright and intellectual property, scholarly impact/bibliometrics, open access, new publishing models, and new licensing models, to name a few.
This Libguide is a work in progress: much of my research has focused on copyright and intellectual property, which is understandable since copyright (institutions, laws, regulations) serves as a foundation and impacts many aspects of scholarly communications. (For instance, use restrictions imposed by copyright are a major reason most access is not open.) Future pages in this libguide will include information on predatory publishing, journal metrics, and data management, along with an expanded open access page. Check back for updates.
