Student Research and Embark Projects

About the Personal Librarian Program?

The OUWB Medical Library offers a personal librarian program to support and develop relationships with individual students longitudinally and to provide services and tutorials more tailored to individual students. A small cohort of medical students of each class is assigned to each librarian, your personal librarian, who serves as your first point of contact, supporting, assisting, and working closely with you throughout your four-year medical education at OUWB.

When should I contact my personal librarian for my Embark Project?

  • It is best practice to meet with your personal librarian at least once during your M1 or M2 year about your Embark project. Your personal librarian can be especially helpful in the literature search phase of your project. Please email any of the following items to your personal librarian prior to the meeting if it is available:
    • Your research topic, research question(s), or objective(s)
    • Your proposal draft
    • Your key search terms
    • 1 - 2 journal articles pertaining to your research topic

What can your personal librarian help?

  • Provide you with library services tailored to your learning or research needs, recommend quality resources, and offer guidance in using the resources.
  • Work and assist you in literature search for your Embark project or other projects.
  • Communicate with you about new library services, new resources, upcoming library events, learning opportunities, and changes of library hours.
  • Work closely with you as you embark on your educational journey at OUWB.
  • Receive your purchase suggestions or recommendations for books, journals, tools, and other resources in support of your learning.
  • Provide support for you at the point of need during preclinical and clinical years.
