If you are teaching a nursing course and would like to explore open or free course materials as alternative to traditional textbooks, you have several options to consider:
Ideally, you can switch to an open access textbook if one has been published that covers the content that you are covering in your course. This option is worth exploring even if an open textbook covers most, but not all, of the content as long as the missed portions are reasonable to cover through additional readings. Below are links to sources of open access and free textbooks and ebooks for you to consider:
OU Libraries offer access to over 600 ebooks related to nursing -- they are free to OU students and faculty, but the level of access varies by title. If an ebook through the library allows for multiple simultaneous users and generous reading and downloading of content, then it may be well-suited for use as required reading in a course.
If you have articles or other readings that you would like to make available to your students, the electronic course reserves service through OU Libraries may be the best way to provide a comprehensive list of your required readings in one spot.
